About hope for Hasti

Hope for Hasti is a charity focused on the development of a gene therapy for Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS), to improve the quality of life of those living with this rare and little known genetic condition. But those that live with CdLS deserve hope, and we aim to give it to them.

Why we want to help this charity?

Maj Chris Brannigan (AGC SPS) has a daughter called Hasti who has a rare genetic disease called Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS). Maj Brannigan embarked on a 700 mile journey from Land’s End to Edinburgh, carrying 25kg walking bare foot to raise money for the gene therapy to change his daughters fate.

Many units around the country have supported this event and raised a generous amount of money towards this charity already. This has inspired us as a detachment to complete this challenge as he has proved nothing is impossible!

What we are doing?

Since 1 Feb 21, eleven members from 16 Medical Regiment AGC(SPS) Detachment, including the Regimental Career Management Officer (RCMO) and Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) have been taking part in the ‘28 Day Accumulator Challenge’ (Virtually). This involves increasing daily distance by 1km per day. A minimum distance of 406km (253.75 miles) will be covered by each member (11 from the Det) throughout the month of February. The rules are simple; run, tab or walk the kilometers associated to the current day. For example, on day 10 complete 10Km, on day 15 complete 15km.

This is a significant undertaking and a challenge that should not be taken lightly. The last week alone will entail a grueling 175km (109.75 miles). Throughout our progress we have been posting on Strava, Whatsapp and now FaceBook. Please support us in raising £1000 for Hope for Hasti, your donation will make a medical history, and without your donations, a treatment will never be found.

About St Helena Hospice

We help local people face incurable illness and bereavement, supporting them and their families, friends and careers.

We also support children and adults who are facing bereavement.

We reach out to members of our community, helping them make their own choices and live with dignity. By focusing on their physical, emotional and spiritual needs, we aim to bring comfort and relief to all those who need it, offering the people of North Essex individual care and total support, regardless of their diagnosis or personal circumstances.

We rely heavily on the help and generosity of our fundraisers, donors and volunteers. Without them we wouldn’t be here.

We all share a common goal: to be here every step of the way for everyone who needs us, helping life to go on in the face of dying, death and bereavement.

Why we want to help this charity?

16 Medical Regiment AGC(SPS) Detachment tragically lost a member of their team in 2019. Sgt Rene Regis was just 45 years old when he was taken from his family and friends. The care and support provided by St Helena Hospice was exemplary; their staff’s dedication and attention to detail in understanding their patients and the needs of the family is truly inspirational. Unfortunately, the early passing of a person’s life is not uncommon and other members of the detachment have experienced similar with immediate family members (some who were serving) in recent times. In return to the excellent (and free) palliative and end of life care we are hoping to raise £1000 to help St Helena Hospice continue their truly excellent service to support all those associated with facing bereavement.
