Story
Everybody has a story or knows someone that has been affected by cancer, I am no different. Back in May 2023 our lives as a family were turned upside down, as my gorgeous wife Nicky was, out of the blue, with no prior symptoms, diagnosed with a primary brain tumour. Over the last 19 months she has battled through 2 craniotomy's, supported a study for best treatment on secondary regrowth, which unfortunately she had to leave early due to a 3rd tumour growing on the opposite side of her brain, causing her to lose movement in the right hand side of her body. With all this she has remained an inspiration to all maintaining her humour, positivity, strength to fight and tenacity to not let this awful disease get her down.
Unfortunately on the 21st January 2025, my gorgeous Nicky lost her brave fight and was taken from us far too early, so now a walk we were going to be doing together, I will now be completing in her memory ❤❤❤
Throughout March 2025 I will be walking 131 miles, that is 1 mile for every different type of brain tumour known currently.
I know times are tough at the moment, but if you are able to sponsor me to support this amazing charity I would be truly grateful, every £ makes a difference!
The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, we're moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour.
The stats;
- Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40.
- Over 12000 people are diagnosed each year with a 'primary brain tumor', including 500 children and young people - that's 33 people every day
- Over 5300 people lose their lives to a brain tumour each year
- At least 88000 children and adults are estimated to be living with a brain tumour in the UK currently
- Brain tumours reduce life expectancy by on average 27 years - the highest of any cancer
- Just 12% of adults survive for 5 years after diagnosis
- Research offers the only real hope of dramatic improvements in the management and treatment of brain tumours. Over £700m is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, yet less than 3% is spent on brain tumours
