Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have set up this fundraising page in memory of a very special MND Angel - my wonderful Mum - Jan.
Mum was 83 years old when she lost her very short Motor Neurone Disease (MND) fight. She was so young at heart, she was extremely social and any chance to get up and have a boogie she would be there.....the first one on the dance floor, dragging me up with her! Mum had been so active all her life - walking the dogs, cycling, she even started spinning classes at the age of 67! She absolutely loved being outdoors and spent most of her spare time gardening. So, as you can imagine, being diagnosed with this cruel disease at her age was just so heartbreaking. I miss her every single day…she was not only the best Mum; she was my best friend.
When she was diagnosed in 2018, I promised her that I would raise as much money as I can to help find a cure for MND. She knew that I was planning to do a wing walk which I did after she passed away in 2019 but what she didn’t know was that I would start running…well neither did I be honest! I learnt how to run in May 2020 by doing the Couch to 5k programme and I ran my first Half Marathon in 2021.
I have raised over £5,500 so far for MND charities - a huge thank you to all those who have supported and continue to support me, but unfortunately the fight still goes on to find a cure, so I have to continue fundraising anyway I can! So, I have this page so that I can continue to share my challenges and raise as much money as possible along the way.
2023 Challenges:
First marathon - The Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon - completed in May)
Man vs Mountain - 22 mile Snowdon challenge - September
The MND charity I am supporting is The Ian Pratt MND Foundation who openly supports the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience – also known as SITraN. SITraN is one of the world leading centres for research into MND as well as other neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The foundation also supports those living with MND. The foundation is run by trustees who are all unpaid volunteers.
MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.
It can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breathe.
It affects people from all communities.
It kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis.
Six people per day are diagnosed with MND in the UK.
It kills six people per day in the UK, just under 2,200 per year
It has no cure.
Thank you again for your support and to help find that cure!
