Story
In April 2025, I will take on the challenge of running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Kenya Kesho School For Girls. For those who don't know me, I am fortunate enough to call Kenya one of my many homes. I am originally from Zimbabwe but have had the privilege of living in Nigeria, Dubai, Nairobi and now England. Across my travels, my education was never in question. My parents worked tirelessly hard to send me to the best schools wherever I may have landed, and thank them every day for the blessing that is education. However, this isn't the case for these young beautiful girls.
The Kenya Kesho Trust is a not-for-profit charity that runs and manages the Kenya Kesho Primary School for Girls. Our mission is to educate girls from the Mshiu Community who have the ability and motivation to go far beyond the essential basic education. We offer a sustainable, quality education to these girls, an education that their families would not ordinarily be able to afford.
Kenya Kesho, translated into English means Kenya for Tomorrow or Kenya for the Future. Kenya Kesho Trust helps make tomorrow a far more optimistic and cheerful world for girls from very poor families. Educating girls has been identified as one of the best solutions for reversing the relentless trend of poverty and is one of the most powerful tools to empower women within the family and society. Educating a girl changes her destiny, raises families out of poverty, and is a starting point for social change.
This is a Primary School with Early Childhood Development facilities and superb primary school facilities for up to 250 girls. Kenya Kesho provides essential support through education, sport and art. Their mission is to assist the girl child to prepare for the future by developing her skills and her confidence. Girls will be taught: self-respect, and the value of a quality education and will be encouraged to recognise their worth and significance for the future of Kenya and Kenyan women.
Why, are we still struggling to educate the girl child in our area? Why are we still struggling with early child marriage, blatant girl child abuse, AIDS and FGM? Education, education, education is needed and education will go a long way to relieving these archaic and painful practices.
