3 years ago my daughter was diagnosed with a very rare autoimmune disease. My beautiful, happy, healthy 7 year-old suddenly found that she was going blind and within the space of two weeks couldn't read, couldn't walk without help and had constant searing pain in her eyes. After a devastating and very worrisome time, in stepped the brilliant doctors at Gt Ormond Street.

With their help, expertise, care and kindness, they looked after my little girl. They got the team of specialists she needed, drained fluid from her brain, scanned her, hooked her up to never-ending bags of drugs and stopped her disease in its tracks. A lot of schooltime was missed, but the hospital provided art classes, parties and chocolate to help pass the hours. With their constant care, they've managed to save her sight and today they continue to keep her disease under control. 

Thanks to Great Ormond Street, my daughter is about to celebrate her 10th birthday with her sight vastly improved - and though her condition is ongoing, she's leading the life of a normal child once again. 

The staff we've met over the past few years have been outstanding and it's been a privilege to see the work they do with sick children. I feel we're remarkably lucky to have such a world-class facility in the UK and would be so thrilled if you could help to support me.

I'm a terrible runner but I'm determined to make it to the finish line on 16th September! I really hope you can give generously to help all the children, both now and in the future, who will need the vital support and care of Great Ormond Street.
