Story
Summerfield is a community stables run largely by volunteers who give up so much of their time and expertise to increase the confidence and practical skills of children and young people through working with the horses. In addition to offering affordable lessons when compared to commercially run stables, the team works with children with a variety of mental and physical difficulties and disabilities as well as supporting children with behavioural problems and subsidising lessons for families who have fallen on hard financial times. They really do make working with and riding horses accessible.
Like so many community organisations, Covid has hit the stables hard financially. They lost a significant part of their income when lessons came to a stop, and yet their outgoings remained the same. They continued to look after the wellbeing of all 20 horses throughout the first lockdown, including feeding, mucking out, and exercising them to keep them fit and healthy, and when other stables have closed their doors for good, Summerfield has taken in horses and ponies where they can.
It costs around £3000 to keep the horses and ponies, fed over winter and we'd like to help make a small dent in that expense if we can. Erin will be going to the stables every morning between Christmas and New Year as a fundraising challenge, including Christmas day, to muck out, sweep, fill water buckets, help with the feeds and anything she can do to help out. Brendan, Dave and Laura will be supporting her too, so please consider sending a little money Summerfield's way if you can.
Thank you so much.
