On 21 April 2013 I will be running the London Marathon in support of Helen and Douglas House. This marvellous Charity provides respite and end of life care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions, as well as support and friendship for the whole family. Few of us aware of the amazing work these organizations carryout on a day to day basis unless we have a personal connection with an individual that the charity supports.

Sadly in March 2012 the Dedworth Middle school lost one of its pupils, Douglas Hibbett. Douglas is remembered by us all as a very special young man. Incredibly courageous, witty, hardworking, always smiling and always willing to help others he was a real credit to both his family and school and is still sorely missed.

Douglas received incredible medical care from many dedicated doctors and nurses but it was Helen and Douglas House that took the lead in ensuring Douglas and his family received the very best of everything during the final months of his life.

By making this fine charity the focus of the schools fundraising activities, activities  which include a fool hardy  Headteacher running the London marathon DMS is determined  to raise as much money as  possible so that it can continue to make a real difference to children like Douglas and families like the Hibbetts.

Your kind donations will allow the charity to meet some of the costs below, every little bit will make a real difference to many young lives.

 -          £1,050 will pay for the medical supplies for both houses for a month

-          £550 will pay for a carer for a week

 

-          £300 will pay for the siblings support group

 

-          £60 will pay for two music therapy sessions which help children with little or no verbal communication to express themselves

 

-          £40 will pay for two hours of nursing care
