We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

My name is Tom and on the 29th February I'm going to be playing games for 24 hours to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Why?

I lost my dad to Oesophageal Cancer in December. This is my way of being able to do something in his memory by raising money to prevent cancer. My Dad has been a huge inspiration to me and was the person guilty of buying my first games console which unintentionally started my obsession with video games.

About the event

I can't run marathons or hike up any mountains, but I can sit on a couch and play video games for 24 hours straight. The twist is I'll be doing it all on my retro gaming collection, streaming the whole thing live so people can watch and donate money to Cancer Research UK. Imagine it like a very nerdy telethon.

I'll be streaming from 4:00pm on Saturday 29th February through my Twitch channel, so please drop by - you don't need an account to watch. I've even rigged it up so Just Giving donations will appear on the screen whilst i'm streaming.

I'll be accompanied by my partner, Faye, and some friends along the way, so you'll be able to really see how bad I am at playing games. I have a collection of old and new games that i'll be playing, but if there is anything you'd like to see me play, then let me know on Twitter and I'll see if I can get hold of it.

How can I watch?

  • go to www.twitch.tv/spidercatboy on your laptop or desktop
  • download the Twitch app on your mobile or tablet
  • download the Twitch app on your Amazon Firestick of Fire TV
  • cast it to your TV using chromecast or miracast

Following my progress up to and on the day

  • Keep checking back to this page where i'll be adding updates
  • You can also follow or DM me on Twitter for updates as I prepare for the event
  • Follow me on Twitch to get alerts of when I go live - I'll be doing some practice streams to iron out any techy gremlins
  • Join my Twitch chat during the event to give me support and friendly banter

About donating

There is no minimum donation and you can donate any time up to, during and a week after the event, however if you donate whilst I am streaming (and you choose to let me know) then your donation will appear on the stream where you'll get a personal thanks from me!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity (Cancer Research UK). So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
