About Southwest Virginia Legal Aid
Southwest Virginia Legal Aid attorneys and paralegals provide assistance and representation to thousands of low-income families each year in cases affecting basic human needs such as family safety and security, preservation of housing, protection of income, and access to health care, education and other services. The agency also works to champion equal justice for low-income Virginians and to remedy the conditions that burden the low-income community. To these ends, we strive to provide high quality, courteous and effective legal services to our clients. Clients must apply and meet income-eligibility guidelines to receive services. In most cases, those living at or below 200% of the federal poverty level will be eligible. Whether a client receives advice and counseling or extended services representation depends upon case particulars - each individual client’s case is unique – and program capacity. Legal services are provided at no cost, although there may be court costs or fees that a client could have to pay. Clients are clearly advised of any anticipated costs involved in their case.
