Story
In lieu of any flowers you might be thinking of for Sonia, we’d love you to please make a donation to the Rowans Hospice instead. Scroll down to read why. Big or small, anonymous if you like, message or no message…if you can, please join us in supporting the amazing team who supported us.
Sonia & I think we’re a fairly resourceful pair and between us would be able to manage together at home in Sonia’s final days. We were perhaps a little naïve. Thankfully, we were able to keep Son at home thanks to the Rowans Hospice nurses who magically appeared in the last 10 days, scooped us up and supported us.
Three times a day they came to our home, made Sonia comfortable, made all the important checks, were up to speed with her medicines and whether they needed adjusting, worked seamlessly with the doctors with access to all notes, arranged urgent meds, listened to me, listened to her and made us both smile. They are qualified nurses who could give Sonia injections if necessary. They offered a 24 hour mobile number for advice if we got stuck and then quickly appeared when needed.
The Rowans “Hospice at Home” service is not government funded, nor can you buy their incredible service privately. Like all charity funded organisations, Rowans fund raising opportunities have been hit hard by the pandemic. Without Sonia’s amazing team of nurses we couldn’t have kept Sonia as comfortable as she was at home in her last days. If you can make a donation then you will have helped too and you will be helping someone else in the future.
If you can’t donate right now, times being what they are, we understand. Perhaps in the future when you next raise money to run /jump out of a plane/shave your head etc you will think of Sonia and think of Rowans Hospice.
If you can donate now, even £5 covered the fuel for one of the visits. With love and thanks.
