Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On June 11th 2023, we (Paul, Andy, Mitch and Sean) will be taking on the Snowdon Triple Challenge in memory of our Mum, Sonara.

We will be tackling some of the most demanding landscapes in Britain, covering all terrains as we cycle, trek and kayak over 36km within 24 hours. Cycling steep climbs and gruelling hills through Snowdonia National Park, kayaking round the stunning Llyn Padarn and summiting the highest peak in Wales, Snowdon at 1,085m.

We have chosen to raise money for GEMS, a charity who raise funds and offer support to patients receiving chemotherapy treatment. GEMS help make the patients and their loved ones who visit the Chemotherapy suite in the Osborne Building at the Leicester Royal Infirmary more comfortable.

Mum loved gardening and helping others, so set up a family gardening business (Cottage Gardens) 25 years ago. While having treatment in the Osborne Building she sat in the little garden that GEMS had upgraded on one of their projects. Never off duty, even when she was poorly, she’d pick the weeds out of the cracks in the slabs!

The reason we've chosen this challenge is because this area holds a special place in our hearts. Our Grandma and Grandad lived near Snowdon and we'd visit multiple times a year. Every time, without fail, we'd visit the lakes and walk the trails around the beautiful mountain. A family tradition would be to stop at the lakes we will be kayaking through and skim slate, paddle and walk the dogs. This place is so special to us and our Mum, that she scattered Grandma and Grandad's ashes there.

This whole place is filled with countless warm memories with our Mum, we've never been there without her and feel this time Mum will still be with us, helping us through and encouraging us, like she always did.

The feeling of Mum's presence and the support and love she always gave us as a family will drive us on to complete the challenge. We'd like to raise as much money as possible for charity to help cancer patients and their families going through a horrible time. We know how proud this would make Mum.

Thank you.

We've paid all the challenge fees ourselves so 100% of anything you can give will go directly to the charity and be really appreciated.
