Story

Siobhan and natalie, will be running 50 miles throughout August this will be tracked through our app and at our pace

We are raising money for Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group. We should have been doing the Great North run to fundraise, in memory of our good friend Lisa Brown..

The group started in February 2014, due to lack of support and services around that time and over the 6 years the charity have been going.  The charity have helped hundreds of patients and families. The group is for anyone that is or has been affected by Cancer, the charity cover all over County Durham and Darlington. The charity  raises all it’s own funds to cover costs for all the services they provide, the charity is 100% Voluntary, so every penny goes to the patients.
The charity provide the following free services: -
•    Monthly Meetings with Guest Speakers from different Health Professionals
•    We take them on Free Social Outings including meals out
•    We provide Free Patient Transport to get the patient to hospital for their life saving treatment.
•    We provide Free Respite Breaks in our Holiday Home at Redcar
•    We provide Financial help and Support
•    We make Chemo Bags and fill them full of goodies
Sadly a few of the charities services are on hold due to this awful Covid-19,. This includes 7 big fundraisers being cancelled. The patient Transport service has increased by 100% because patients are still going to hospital for Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy or Blood Transfusions and ambulances are very limited . The Volunteer drivers are paid mileage so funding is very tight. We have Cancer Patients that are extremely vulnerable, and they live alone and have no family who are simply just left to fend for themselves. Many patients have not received the letters to help them secure online shopping slots so have no access to getting food. Last week the charity  managed to deliver 40 Hampers to our most vulnerable but still have so many without. The charity is also helping the patients claim the right benefits to support them financially as many are off work due to the risk of the virus.
