Simply Voices is a large mixed choir from Doncaster in South Yorkshire. We love singing and also love collecting money for charity. During the past year we have raised over £7,000 for different causes including Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and St John's Hospice, Doncaster. Cancer Research is a cause very close to our hearts because, just like lots of other groups and organisations, too many of our choir members and their families have suffered from cancer. However, lots of us have survived. We want to help make sure that more and more people come through this dreadful experience.
Arwen: "I am blessed to know a few people who have had cancer and survived thanks to the research already done. Although not personally affected by this horrible disease, this is a fantastic way to raise awareness, funds and have a great time in the process.
May: "2008 to 2011 seemed to be an endless time in my life where I watched people fighting this terrible disease. First my dad who bravely fought it for two years, then my husband who died within four months of being diagnosed. All my family do all they can to support Cancer Research, Macmillan and Marie Curie from selling cupcakes to midnight walks through the streets of Stirling in Scotland.
Kate: "Thanks to the work done by Cancer Research, one in two people with cancer now survive. I am immensely grateful to be one of them. I wouldn't be without Cancer Research and Weston Park Cancer Hospital. I'm entering Race for Life because I can: because I'm still here."
Dianne: "I am taking part in Race for Life so that one day my children, grandchildren, family and friends can live in a cancer free world. Also to give hope and strength to those fighting cancer and remembering those who we have lost."
Chris our team trainer: "It's with great pleasure that I volunteer my time in support of the choir and this cause. Although men are not allowed to take part in the actual event, I feel it's important for everyone to play their part ... so I'm helping with a few training walks leading up to the big day. And when that day arrives, I'll be cheering you all on!"
