Story
In memory of our darling Simon, we need to raise £1000 every year for the next 10 years until 2032, to fund the Simon Mapp Awards, which launches in October 2022.
The Simon Mapp Awards is in loving honour of Simon who graduated from Birmingham University (Westhill College) as Bachelor of Theology for Applied Theology in 1996. Simon died in October 2021 aged just 48 from cancer.
The Simon Mapp Awards is an annual scheme open to second-year students from the Department of Theology and Religion at Birmingham University, who can apply for help to fund the purchase of their chosen specialist books in preparation for their third-year dissertation. Click here to visit www.simonmappawards.com to find out more. Five lucky recipients per academic year will receive £200 in book tokens from the Awards. (£1000 per academic year)
We need to raise £1000 every year for the next 10 years until 2032, by which point we hope this will be self funded by donations from graduates and ex recipients of the Awards.
As a graduate himself from Birmingham University, this Awards scheme is Simon’s legacy, to fulfil his wish that knowledge and discovery should be available to all. It is also to honour his unique and continued search for truth with his theological and philosophical community, long after his student years ended.
This Awards scheme perfectly captures who Simon was as a human being. He made a huge positive impact on so many people because he believed in making a proactive and personal contribution to his community; he supported people through grief as a funeral celebrant, was a volunteer Samaritan, signposted the young and vulnerable through homelessness, assisted young adults with special needs, and was an active member of the Sea of Faith network to name just a few. Now, in his name he supports students needing financial support.
Every penny raised on this page goes direct to Birmingham University to fund the Simon Mapp Awards. Do please tick for Gift Aid in your donation.
