Story
This years fund raising is a little closer to home on many fronts and is to support the Queens Medical Centre childrens ward and a young lad ( Archie ) that goes to my daughters school and is battling Leukaemia.
So the wetsuit gets another airing as i'll be swimming 2.4 miles / cycling 112 miles and then running a full marathon and hopefully finishing this year before it gets dark ( the start is 6 am )
I gave up drinking for 10 months for this ( holidays and christmas etc ) , that's got to be worth a fiver on its own let alone the 13-14 hours it'll take me to complete the "race" , I'll leave you with Archies story, which puts any pain i'll feel on the day ( and there will be plenty ) to shame ......
Hi, my name is Archie. I'm 9 years old and I'm battling leukaemia for the second time in my life. I thought it had gone, but it came back after five and a half years. The treatment is extremely harsh and it makes me feel very tired, weak and I don't want to eat. I get constant infections and I rarely get time to see my two brothers or friends as I spend most of my time on Ward E38 at the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham. The staff on the ward are trying to raise £75k to refurbish the ward to make it more family friendly and comfortable for all the children. It's OK at the minute but it could be so much nicer. Are you able to help me, and so many children like me, have better surroundings while we do everything we can to beat cancer?
