Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I was originally due to run the Manchester Marathon on the 5th April, but this was postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak. As a result I planned a new Marathon around my local area, that takes in Greenwich, Danson, and Avery Hill, parks. So I’m calling it my “3 parks marathon”.

For social distancing reasons I will be running this alone, but will have a friend cycling the route at a short distance to witness and act as a support.

I was determined that even though Manchester had been postponed, that would still do a marathon for Bromley, Lewisham & Greenwich Mind. And this is my story why .....

In summer 2018 I was diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder, panic attack disorder, and depression. This was following a very sudden change in my life circumstances that summer, which culminated in me experiencing a breakdown and even attempting suicide a couple of months later. In addition to this I was also identified, in March 2019, as having OSFED (Other Specified Feeding & Eating Disorder). My eating disorder hadn’t been initially picked up when I was diagnosed with the anxiety & depression, but this was later identified as being as a direct result of my other mental health issues.

Thankfully, through the help and support from charities like Mind, I am now able to share and be open about my experiences of dealing with my mental health, and and tell my story to help others in making that first step to seek help. It’s because of this that I want to give something back to this great charity, for all the support that they have given me.
