Stroud Half Marathon 2009 · 25 October 2009 ·
Race Result: 836 th out of 2200. Time 1 hour, 53 minutes. Legs and body: very, very tired.
Thank you to everyone below: it helped get me around.
Peter.
Hello, First things first- thank you for reading this. It's all about helping someone with Multiple Sclerosis.
Secondly, this Sheriff business.
It's only a nickname inadvertently acquired at work one Sunday morning, whilst gazing out of an office window high above the streets of Stroud town centre. It does however resonate with my age, job and work ethic, but not my rank. There's enough clues there for you to work out what I do- should you be interested.
And thirdly: in 2005 I completed the London Marathon, in a little over 4 hours, and raised just under £3000 for this amazing charity, headed by Stroud resident, Alastair Hignell of Rugby Union, County Cricket and BBC radio commentary fame. At the time I said 'Never Again', boy did it hurt!
I have not run in any event since.
Then a few week's ago I discovered Alastair's charity, the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre, needed a team of one hundred runners, fittingly named, Higgy's Heroes- to compete and raise money in the Stroud Half Marathon.
I thought, 'that needs my support', (otherwise known as an SJ moment, sorry work code), and here we are- thanks to the real sheriff's Mark and Paula and my magnificant shift colleagues (I needed the time-off for this).
Obviously, I'm hoping you will now pop some money on the account. All donations however small will be gratefully appreciated- thank you.
If you know someone with a connection to MS, maybe you could refer them to my page.

HALF MARATHON FACTOIDS: You might just want to dig that little bit deeper!
The distance: just over 13 miles (even Arty thinks that's a long way)
Depending on the temperature I'll loose just under 2 litres in sweat (roughly a litre an hour)
I'll burn approximately 1,500 calories
It will take 15,000 paces to get around
Each pace will send 160 pounds of pressure through my body- making it hurt
Contrary to rumour I'm not doing this to get a day off work, I'd rather be working- I've got a lot on
I'm doing it because there's 100,000 people out there who need the help and support of this charity
I won't be going around too quickly: I'm not race fit, so it will hurt even more, and for longer
