Story
I am fundraising for Scottish Refugee Council Hardship Fund.
With Home Office support currently at less than 70% of Jobseekers Allowance , families and individuals struggling to make sense of a complex asylum process can be left without basic necessities . The Asylum process often leaves vulnerable people destitute.
The Scottish Refugee Council knows the needs and seeks to help appropriately when it can from its small Hardship Fund.
To help make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable asylum seekers please support my efforts by sponsoring me.
My Challenge is to cycle the total distance from Glasgow to Croydon (665 km) between Sept 2014 and June 2015... finishing by world Refugee Day on June 20th 2015.
Why this particular distance ?
Currently all potential asylum seekers must be screened in Croydon near London. So anyone who arrives in Glasgow has to make their own way to Croydon , a distance of 665 km , without support , in order to start the Asylum process .
To draw attention to this unjust treatment of very vulnerable people ,my personal challenge will mean cycling more than 17km , or 10 miles . per week !
I seek to raise £1330 ……a pound for each kilometre in the whole distance from Glasgow to Croydon and back
Wish me luck!
Anyone wishing to join me for any part of it will be a great encouragement !
