Story

Disability Awareness Day is the world's largest 'not for profit' voluntary-led disability exhibition. It takes a lot of money to run it every year so please sponsor our team on their gruelling Scuba Challenge day.  Or support us by joining in - see the WDP website for more details.

The team is led by  Dave Thompson MBE. Dave sustained a spinal cord injury whilst playing American Football and has since been a full time wheelchair user with limited use in his left arm and none in his right arm or legs.  Dave will be joined by a number of friends including 22 year old ex-serviceman Tom Coleridge, a full time wheelchair user since sustaining a spinal cord injury after being shot in Afghanistan in 2010. Toms injury left him paralysed from the waist.

Scuba enthusiast Dave launched the first Going the Extra Mile Scuba Challenge in order to raise funding  to continue running the worlds largest independent living festival 'Disability Awareness Day'. This years event will raise funds for WDP services.

The challenge will include 2 deep dives, on Saturday 6th September the day will start with an 18m morning dive at Capenwray Quarry in Lancashire, followed by an afternoon 18m dive a little closer to home at Eccleston Delph and finally late afternoon 64 lengths of the swimming pool at Woolston Leisure Centre, Warrington.

Other members of the team currently include; Dave's dive buddy Dave Williams, John Munslow, Dave Molyneux, Simon & Thomas Barber, Dave & Jack Sloan and Derek Howden.

Terry Wood and his team from Cheshire Scuba Academy have once again agreed to support the event, providing dive instructors and equipment.

Your Housing Group have kindly supported all travelling costs for this years event.

LiveWire (Leisure) have donated the use of the pool.
