Story
My recent visit to Damascus, Syria for Pilgrimage tore me into pieces witnessing the destruction and poverty around the Holy Shrine Of Sayeda Zainab (SA).
My journey quickly became more than just a Pilgrimage,
I found myself in tears and heartbroken walking around the streets of Zainabiya helping with everything I possibly could with any money I bought along with me.
I used most of my time around the streets with Orphans, feeding and comforting them. I visited many Widows with a few friends listening to their heartbroken stories and helping them with all I could.
I realised help is needed at a larger scale and this is why I have set up this funding page with a trustable charity organisation.
This was a truly heartbreaking journey which has changed me for life.
I will be travelling to Damascus, Syria on the 15th October with a dedicated team of professionals and help those in urgent need around the area sorrounding the Shrine of Sayeda Zainab (SA) The Beloved Granddaughter Of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH).
Syria is still in turmoil after years of conflict and around 6 million people are left internally displaced, having escaped their hometowns in search of safety.
Temperatures are currently dropping and those widows and orphans who arrived with little or no possessions, are at risk from the cold winter months.
They are living in temporary shelter or abandoned buildings, exposed to the bitter elements. In these conditions, children will be more likely to fall ill with diseases, like chest infections and pneumonia, and without nutritional food, their immune systems will be fragile and may result in the loss of life.
WF-AID is supporting the Lady Zaynab Helping Hands Syria Appeal to raise funds for winter essentials, medical assessments and treatments – along with emergency aid in the form of food baskets, education supplies and home supplies.
The UNHCR estimates that some of the 4.8 million refugees those who may have been living temporarily in neighbouring countries are now returning to their homeland after years of displacement. Damage to their homes and property have left families without adequate protection against the harsh weather conditions.
