My Charity
I have decided to raise money for St Clare Hospice, a very deserving local charity who care for terminally ill patients and their families.
Far too many people will only realise the value of a hospice like St Clare when they are unfortunate enough to need one. For me, the eye-opening experience came when my grandad was diagnosed with cancer just over two years ago. During his final months, grandad spent time at the hospice where the nurses helped him during his weakest moments to fight back and stay strong. Even whilst at home, they regularly visited the house to keep him feeling positive, mentally and physically. At St Clare’s, they don’t forget about the family’s suffering and I know how grateful my mum and nan were for the support they received.
My grandad was humbled by his experience at St Clare Hospice and he wished he had done more for charity during his life. With that in mind, I want to share his message and show St Clare Hospice how much both my grandad and the whole family have appreciated their work.
The Ultimate Challenge
My final goal will be to complete a 250 km sled from northern Norway across the Swedish border. In -30o temperatures, I will drive my own husky sled across the arctic, travelling on average 50 km/day for six days. Unlike other charity challenges, the physical demands are the least of my worries. I will be setting up camp each day in the icy wilderness without a toilet, shower or bakery for miles!
