Story
I am a disabled Veteran and row under the P3R (PD) category I was injured playing rugby whist onboard HMS Illustrious. Unfortunately the injury ended my career and left me disabled for life. I took up rowing a few years ago and I loved it. I have been very lucky with the support I’ve received from the team, friends, family and Marjons university in Plymouth, where I am an elite sports scholar. I currently hold 4 world records, 4 British records and 1 Welsh record and have gone up and age category and have my eyes on a couple to take this year!
I’ve been hampered by injury, Asthma and pneumonia the last year and currently have a broken fibula so the challenge won’t be easy. It will be a mixture of normal rowing and arms only when the leg, hips or knees need a rest.
I am taking on the challenge to row the distance of the channel which is 39km (24.2m). I am wanting to complete the challenge in one sitting on a concept two rower. I haven’t trained due to illness and this will be throwing myself in at the deep end, but I need a challenge. So I am to complete the challenge by just getting on and going for it. I’m not setting a time to complete the challenge just completing it with chronic asthma will be enough ha ha.
I will complete the challenge on the 14th April 2021
I joined the wheelchair rugby team a couple of years ago and now I’m the chairman and I couldn’t be more honoured the teams story is below.
Desperately seeking funds for the club to purchase equipment and off set training costs. The team is made up of wounded or injured in service veterans. At present we don't have enough wheelchairs for the whole team to train at any one time. Due to covid 19 we have lost some sponsorship we have also lost our training venue which has raised our running costs. We have disabled veterans who cant afford their own wheelchair due to such high cost the club need more chairs so more veterans can play. 2019 we came second at the British championships on the first time we have entered it.
