Story

Thank you for visiting my page.

2024 marks 100 years of Lepra so I am going to complete the challenge of dipping every day for 100 days. This may sound easy after completing a year but I am out of routine and autumn is coming! So let's go do this and help raise awareness for Leprosy and Lymphatic Filariasis. 🙏🏻

Dipping Every Day for Elin 🤍🌻 ~ I completed 375 days in a row of dipping every day for Elin.

I am now completing a challenge of doing 10,000 steps every day in April.

So Elin was the most kind, loving and naturally beautiful soul, she was my son's girlfriend and sadly she tragically lost her life in January 2022.

Originally this started as me deciding to dip every day for a month. I started on March 1st but after I completed a month I decided to carry on! My mission now is to complete 365 days of dipping in the sea (or a river) every day for Elin.

This is to raise money for Lepra UK. They are a charity who support people with Leprosy and Lymphatic Filariasis (Elephantiasis).

Elin wanted to study medicine and was interested in learning more about these tropical diseases after listening to a lecture at King's College London, particularly Lymphatic Filariasis (LF).

It is a parasitic disease caused by microscopic thread-like worms, which are transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. This disease affects millions of people worldwide and due to the prejudice attached to the deformities caused by LF, many people affected are often shunned and abandoned by their loved ones when they need help the most. They often lose their ability to work due to the effects of LF. It is the second biggest cause of long-term disability in the world.

Lepra UK use innovative ways to spread health education messages to inform people about LF and treatment. They have developed and teach self-care techniques to people already affected enabling them to reduce fevers and swelling. They also help people to get back to work by providing custom-made shoes and help people form self-help groups to improve their livelihoods. 🌻💛
