Story

Assalam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu

*UPDATE* 16/02/25

Overall Project Impacts:

Since 2022, several projects have brought life-changing improvements to the Kwankonje and Msocha communities, positively impacting thousands of people.

Key Achievements:

✅ Waterborne diseases have been eliminated in the project areas.

✅ Children no longer have to fetch water, improving school attendance and performance.

✅ Muslims can now attend Friday (Al Jumu'ah) prayers easily, as water access enables proper ablution.

✅ Women and children are safer, with no more rape cases linked to water collection.

✅ Hygiene has improved, making daily life cleaner and healthier.

✅ Economic growth is evident, as families now have time for farming and other income-generating activities.

Alhamdulillah, the project has gone from strength to strength and has extended to 3 separate aras so far. These include the original plan for a masjid and water well in Kwankonje, Tanzania as well as a water well serving the Kwankonje Primary School. This serves over 1200 students and 780 households who previously had no access to clean water.

A third well has also been built in the nearby Msocha Village -providing a clean, safe water supply to over 650 households. This has bolstered the health and economic activity of the community and has also resulted in a significant decrease in the number of rape cases, as women no longer need to walk 3km per day to fetch water.

A fourth project is now underway in Kwankonje Village - the construction of a sanitation block and health dispensary. The sanitation block, including latrines, shower facilities and washing areas, has been built and ensures better privacy for women as well as improved hygiene and reduced disease outbreaks. The dispensary is also under construction and will serve over 5000 people - offering vital emergency and essential healthcare to people who would otherwise need to travel great distances for it.

*UPDATE* 13/04/22

Alhamdulillah, having raised the initial target amount for a medium sized mosque, the opportunity has arisen for this to be expanded to a larger size with increased water and sanitation supply. Not only will this enable a clean and safe supply of water, there will also be access to toilets and washing facilities that were previously unavailable. The new cost of the project is £24,000 - we are already very close so please give generously to enable us to achieve this new goal. May Allah accept our efforts on Salmaan's behalf!

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajioon.

It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform you that our dear brother Salmaan Ashraf has passed away. Many of you will have known him through school or university and benefited from his advice and support, or even just appreciated his truly unique sense of humour. Salmaan achieved an exceptional amount in his life academically, but it was his strength of character and perseverance that we will all remember him for. He prided himself on his individuality and many will remember moments of eccentricity with great fondness. He was never afraid to be unusual or think differently and anyone who had a meaningful conversation with him will rarely have come away without learning or considering something new.

Whilst this makes his loss even harder to bear, we can take solace in the fact that we are not helpless and can take action to benefit him in his Hereafter. It is with this in mind that we seek to honour him by giving charity in his name. The chosen project will fund the construction of a mosque in his name that will serve hundreds of people as both a spiritual, educational and community centre. There will also be the construction of a large community well to provide a few thousand people with water. This is an essential gift that will serve some of the most impoverished populations in the world and provide a centre around which communities can grow. These projects will be in Tanzania and were chosen with the advice of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in mind, who said: “The best charity is giving water to drink” [Ahmad] and that “Whoever builds a Masjid for the sake of Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.”

Please give generously to benefit Salmaan’s Akhira and keep him and his family in your duas.

JazakAllah Khair
