In 2020 I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and decided to retire early in March 2021 in order to concentrate on 'keeping moving' - the advice my consultant gave me to help stave off the myriad of symptoms associated with this disease. I decided to try and maximise benefits by undertaking a sponsored walk last May, coast to coast along Hadrian's Wall, and through the generosity of family, friends, ex-colleagues and supporters I raised over £10,000 for Parkinson's UK.
We have decided we can't stop there and are now planning to walk Offa's Dyke in May 2022 - twice the distance and the height of Everest to boot. I'm not sure I can make it!!, but I have the tremendous support of my husband and good friends - so team OD-OMG! are going to give it our best shot, that's: Sally Franck, Richard Franck, Beth Foster, Iain Foster & Anna Griffin.
Our Goal is to exceed £10,000 in fundraising, which we know will be really tough second time around - so we would be so very grateful for your support. Thank you.
Living with Parkinson's is difficult. Not knowing which symptom will affect you next or when, and knowing there is no way out is hard. I am fortunate at the moment, I am keeping the worst of it at bay with medication and by taking the advice of my consultant and keeping moving! I am beyond being embarrassed by my shake now - I just want to raise awareness of the disease and raise as much money as we can for research, to bring closer the day that a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease is not the life sentence that it currently is, ensuring no-one else has to live under this shadow.
