Update: Amid Coronavirus fears the event has been postponed.

Despite this news we would still love to see the donations coming in for the charities we are supporting, and we assure you we will be racing when it is possible for the event to be rescheduled.

Gary, Nicole and Chris, will be taking part in the Wilmslow Running Festival, in honour of Mike Holroyd.

We are a group of scuba diving friends wanting to raise some
money in honour of Mike who tragically lost his life following a heart attack during a diver training exercise in April 2018. Mike, a vet from the Blackburn area, was a fitness fanatic and highly experienced diver and instructor. Over the years he voluntarily trained hundreds of students from different backgrounds in scuba diving and sailing.

One of the overwhelming memories from the day of the incident was the incredible response from multiple emergency rescue teams including Wasdale Mountain Rescue, North West Air Ambulance, Great North Air Ambulance, North West Ambulance Service and Cumbria Fire and Rescue. For this reason we have chosen to raise money for two charities, of course very important to us as divers, but they may also be called out in a wide range of emergency situations -

North West Air Ambulance – This charity’s helicopters fly 365 days a year, with doctors and paramedics on board; they provide the fastest possible treatment and extraction of patients across the North West region.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue – This team of volunteers provides search and rescue in one of Britain’s most popular tourist and walking destinations, covering the mountains and valleys of Wasdale and Eskdale in the Lake District.

The three of us are currently in training for the event. Gary and Chris will be attempting the Half Marathon whilst Nicole will take part in the 10k Race.

We are sure seeing the donations coming in will help spur us on through our training.
