Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. With your help my
vision is to build a school in Nepal!
Last year you may have seen me and my nephew race across South America in the BBC TV series, Race Across the World. This was not only an amazing opportunity to travel and experience the beauty of South America but as a team we won the race arriving 1st place only 20 seconds ahead of the runners up. Whilst this was a thrilling experience, it was a real eye opener to witness first-hand child poverty on the streets of Brazil. As soon as we won, we knew straight away to donate half the prize money to try and help the children in some way or at least to get them off the streets.
This year I have chosen to raise funds for the charity, Orphans in Need to help build a school for disadvantaged children in Nepal.
Admittedly, this is one of the biggest challenges I have set myself but with your help I am confident we can raise enough funds to build a school to help children escape poverty by offering a safe
community where they can learn vital skills to improve their employment prospects for the rest of their lives. These children are the future and without basic education, the vicious cycle of poverty will continue.
To raise funds for this project, I will be embarking on a number of challenges this year starting in the month of Ramadan. For those who may not know what Ramadan entails, it is a month long occasion whereby Muslims refrain from food and drink during daylight hours – this is called fasting.
During RamadanMuslims commemorate the month the Quran (the Muslim holy book) was first revealed. Whilst fasting I have challenged myself to run the Manchester Marathon on 3rd April during ramadan whilst fasting. No food or water before during or after the race.
Why am I doing this?
With an extremely fragile and undeveloped economy, Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. The number of orphans in undeveloped countries like Nepal is enormous and the sad reality is these children have no choice but to work to survive and do not have the privilege to be children or think about their future. Orphans in Need have been working tirelessly to lift children out of poverty and give them hope for a better future.
Your donations will contribute towards building a school in one of the deprived countries in the world and help change these children’s lives by giving them their basic right to education as well as hope for a better future.
