Story

RSPB Cwm Clydach Kites and Dippers is a wildlife club for young people aged 8-18 years old based at the RSPB Cwm Clydach Reserve in Craig Cefn Parc just outside Swansea.

For the first time in 3000 years we will be the first people EVER to sleep 600ft underground at Dan yr Ogof Caves as part of the RSPB's Big Wild Sleepout.  Family and friends will join us for this unique event, where we'll spend a night in nature's home to raise money and help save our wildlife.  Many of our young members have experienced the wonders of spending a night under canvas, or even just under the stars. But on Friday night the 20th June we won't be able to smell the fresh breeze of a moonlit wood or wake up to the morning sun on a crinkled flysheet.... no we'll be falling asleep (hopefully!) to water pounding through our bedroom ceiling and glistening stalactites clinging onto the ancient rocks above our heads. As nice as this may sound to the more adventurous person, you mustn't forget that we'll also be waking up on a cold stone bed whose last residents  could well of been the bronze age people who lived in 'Cathedral cave' 3,000 years ago. We too will be sleeping in Cathedral cave which is 600ft deep into the mountain side and we will be sleeping at the deepest part. This cave is a part of the Dan yr Ogof cave system (National Showcaves Centre of Wales).

We will then be getting up at 4.30am the following morning to watch the sunrise in the nearby stone circle for the summer solstice before having our breakfast with the dinosaurs (who also live at the show caves).
