We play a vital role in raising funds to improve health and enhance lives

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The Intensive Care looks after the sickest patients in the hospital. The ultra sound (US) machine which we are hoping to buy will enable us to manage all the ICU patients to a higher standard. The US is used to look at how well the heart is work, tells us information about the function of the lungs and allows us to look at the kidneys and the rest of the abdomen. These are all organs which need support in the ICU on patients who have a critical illness. In addition the machine allows us to look at the blood vessels and helps us to insert some of the special monitoring which the ICU patients require.

Emily Organ - "I spent four days in Royal Berks ICU with severe pneumonia in Autumn 2011. It was a sudden occurence and a frightening time both for me and my family. I'll always be grateful to the ICU team for all their help and support in ensuring I made a full recovery. Running the Reading Half-Marathon to raise money the Royal Berks ICU is a way for me to give something back and say thank you."

Matt Wiltshire - "
The 'ICU Support Network Reading' group would like to express their special gratitude to all ICU RBH staff for their involvement in the Reading Half Marathon. It shows not only that their life saving skills are vital in ICU, but shows their willingness outside work to contribute to the care of future ICU patients and it is an inspiration to us all on the support group."
