Story
My name is George Bell. Sebastien Codet and I are planning to row from Radley College, Oxfordshire to Barnes Bridge, London. We will be attempting to do this over the course three days. The total distance is 150 km/97 miles and we will be rowing for over 6 hours each day. We will be taking all sleeping and camping equipment on the boat and will buy food when we stop each night. We will attempt to do this without any help from family members or any other outside help. We will be staying at Pangbourn and Eton and plan to set off on Thursday June 3rd.
We are raising money for The Sea Cadets (www.sea-cadets.org) because we believe that this charity gives amazing opportunities to young people in the most deprived parts of the UK. We hope that any funds we raise will be going towards the On The Water program that is being run this year. The program offers up to a month of activities for young people, consisting of rowing, paddling and sailing. This year these places are being given to the most deprived children in Birmingham; Sea-Cadets hope to be able to offer 400 children this opportunity over the summer.
Through this program the children will experience:
· Exercise and excitement, with physical and mental health benefits for young people just coming out of months of lockdown in challenging environments.
· A chance to gain qualifications, increasing the sense of achievement.
· Growth in confidence, with beneficial impact on their wider life and development; 73% of participants in London in 2019 said they were now more confident as a result of the programme.
· Experience of teamworking and collaboration.
· The opportunity to join Sea Cadets for longer-term free/affordable opportunities and benefits.
We very much hope you can support this very worthwhile cause by sponsoring our row.
