Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

As most of you will already know, Marie Curie is a charity with a huge place in my heart and climbing the worlds tallest free standing mountain is the least I could do to raise funds for this incredible charity.

In April 2016, at the age of 46, my Mum was diagnosed with a Neuroendocrine tumor, a very rare type of cancer. During the first couple of months of her diagnosis she went through extensive bouts of chemotherapy which she was reacting well to before taking seizures while driving on the motorway on June 10th 2016. This was the start of what would be an emotionally draining but memory making two months in the Royal Infirmary, the Beatson then to where my Mum was most comfortable, the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow.

My mum smiled and laughed throughout the journey (she even left the hospice one day to get a tattoo of her cancer ribbon on her wrist) which made it easier for myself and all of the family to deal with in the toughest moments of our life. Unfortunately after a short, but aggressive, battle with this horrible illness my mum died on the 10th August 2016 at the age of just 47. Since then I have embarked on many challenges for Marie Curie, hosting events in her memory, taking on the Kiltwalk and eventually working with them full time but this will be the biggest challenge of them all, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

The staff at the Marie Curie Hospice were fantastic and without them I'm not sure how I would have handled the full situation. If you can donate anything to this fantastic cause it would be greatly appreciated because I know first hand where your donation will be used and how much it will help another family like mine.

Thanks,
