Story
We may wait a long time for a cure for cancer, but assistance is provided now and every day for cancer patients and their families by MacMillan Cancer Support.
My mother is 78 years old now, she has had breast cancer and very intrusive chemotherapy in two bouts over the last 10 years. Her Oncologist has told us that chemotherapy can do no more for her now, thus she has entered into the palliative care period, after a brief time staying with my wife and I, Mum chose to return home in July.
At the moment she has little pain, and because of losing weight is actually more mobile than she has been for a while (the wheelchair is definitely parked up even if the walking stick is in reasonably constant use!) In time the pain will increase and the weight will drop some more, maybe Mum will chose to come back and stay with us, maybe the MacMillan bed available just 200 yards away will be preferable, or maybe she has other ideas(!?) either way, It is always Mum's choice.
Through this more challenging period, I have begun to appreciate all the different organisations that support individuals and family in such a predicament, I am very aware that Mum is not the only one, you all have known, or know someone, affected by Cancer.
The choice of which organisation to support is a personal thing, I personally have had enough support through telephone conversations etc. to feel MacMillan to be my preference, but St Barnabas Hospice, The BritishRed Cross and Marie Curie, all do fantastic work, and I should not fail to mention the amazing staff within the NHS, where the financial rewards are disproportionately distributed, but the spiritual rewards for great work done comes to all the right people.
Many thanks for taking the time to read this, if you wish to support by making a donation, thank you, that will be great. if it is MacMillan, you are thinking like I am thinking, if another valuable charity, that is great too,
