Fundraising for Maa
Story
Assalam wa alykum / Hi everyone, I’ll be taking part in a sponsered skydive in an effort to raise funds for Maternal Aid Association (Maa).
Currently 99% of maternal mortality occurs in developing countries, with pregnancy being the 3rd leading cause of death for Bangladeshi women. Maa aims to reduce these figures through simple and sustainable healthcare made available in resource poor areas.
Maa is a grassroots charity dedicated to supporting mothers in resource-poor settings.
Maa provides medicine, resources and education to mothers and young women in developing countries, in hopes of improving maternal healthcare and empowering the next generation. Each year a group of volunteers from the UK set up health camps with follow up care being given every two months after.
Maa's flagship project is called JourneyMaa. This project takes volunteers from the UK to Bangladesh to provide free maternal health checkups and medication for pregnant women. In addition to this, the volunteers deliver educational seminars to teach pregnant women about the complications of pregnancy, so that they are aware of the common red-flag symptoms.
