Story
Red Moor School is a small Independent Specialist Provision for young people with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs, including students on the autism spectrum or demonstrate behaviour associated with autism. Many young people also come to Red Moor with complex needs, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours.
It is important for us to build a community feeling for our students that they can be proud to attend and make there own. We have a student council at the heart of the school who choose a charity annually to raise money for throughout the year. As a staff team we feel that it is important to support the students in their endeavours and have decided to launch "The Saints Wave" challenge to raise money for the Wave Project who support young people who have similar life experiences and challenges to our very own Red Moor cohort.
Our Challenge on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July this year is to complete a 2 day hiking and kayak challenge along The Saints Way and the River Fowey in Cornwall from Padstow to Fowey. Day 1 will see the team walk 20 miles from Padstow to Lanlivery and the school grounds, which The Saint's Way pass through. We will camp and rest up before heading out the next morning.
Day 2 will see the team Kayak/Paddleboard the remaining 8 miles from Lostwithiel to Fowey along the river.
Charities such as the Wave Project have such a positive and supporting impact on the families and young people who attend settings such as Red Moor, we are delighted to support the students in raising money for such a great cause.
We have set a team target of £1000 pounds and it would be amazing if we could achieve this together.
Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
