We raise funds to support cancer services to support those living with cancer

Story

Hi all,

Last August my Dad was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, a very rare form of lung cancer due to exposure to asbestos. He fought a hard battle but sadly died on the 9th of July.

During many hospital visits we came across a charity, Birstall BAGS who support the local community in Birstall and surrounding areas through cancer awareness initiatives and the funding of equipment and services for the benefit of people living in the community with cancer. Since launching in 1998 they have successfully funded equipment, refurbishment and patient support groups within the region.

To date Birstall BAGS have funded:

• An ultrasound scanner at Glenfield Hospital - £14,500
• An examination couch in the scanning room of the gynaecology department of the Leicester Royal Infirmary Hospital - £8,890
• Four recliner chairs for patients having procedures on the Osborne Ward at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The ward only had four beds so the chairs mean more patients can be treated and made comfortable

This was a huge challenge for me to complete the 13.1 miles but I made a promise to my Dad that I would do this and would appreciate any donations as funding this charity makes such a difference to the families that are living and coping with cancer and I thank you.

Birstall BAGS seeks to bring people together to raise funds to support cancer services used by the local community. The charity also takes every opportunity to raise the profile of cancer particularly with regard to the signs and symptoms recognising that early diagnosis of cancer really can save lives. Birstall BAGS works with other local charities to provide services that support members of the local community who are living with a diagnosis of cancer. Together we are stronger.
