Story

Those of you that know me well will know I am not very sporty. However, last year, in a moment of madness, or maybe it was a mini mid-life crisis, I realised that this year I turn 40...and maybe I should do something to challenge myself...so I signed up to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April, in aid of The Children's Intensive Care Unit at The University Hospital of North Midlands. Shortly after, I had a second moment of madness and signed up to run a half marathon at Oulton Park in March!

I have worked in various roles at UHNM over the years - health care support worker, paediatric intensive care nurse, medical student and finally a doctor. I am now a GP and do not work at UHNM, however, I use our local hospital all the time and am keen to support it - it might be busy, but we don't realise how lucky we are to have it on our doorstep.

Having worked on PICU for several years, I know first hand the care that is delivered and know about the journey patient's and their families experience whilst their child is on the unit. If I can help to raise funds to make this journey a little easier or to further improve the facilities, resources and care that can be delivered by running a few miles (in my head it sounds easy...the training is telling me otherwise), it is a small price to pay to help those who really need it.

To encourage me in my training and to keep my legs moving, if you could spare a few pounds and help me raise much needed funds for our local Children's Intensive Care Unit I would be very grateful.

Thank you. x
