Story
In 2016, Peter was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 17. The Troake family left no stone unturned in their determination to try everything to help Peter. This meant attacking everything as a family unit. Despite all his treatment, whenever Peter was well enough, he could be found out on the golf course. His huge heart mixed with his love for golf, sparked Peters ambition of playing every golf course in New Zealand to fundraise for Cure Kids. This meant there would be over 400 golf courses for Peter and his family to play at.
Unfortunately, despite managing to achieve remission for 4 months in October 2016, Peter relapsed. However, his fighting did not stop there, and whilst getting treatment, he continued to carry out his mission and managed to play another 5 courses. Sadly, and unexpectedly, Peter passed away in the middle of treatment on the 11th of June 2017.
The only thing that Peter ever requested for was Jake to continue his mission of playing all the courses in New Zealand. Jake, with the assistance of the family, then stepped up to the plate and upheld Peters wish to continue his quest to play golf and fundraise for Cure Kids.
Over the next few years, every golf course in New Zealand can expect the Troake family to come and play. Whilst travelling the country the Troake’s will also be aiming to spread awareness and raise funds. You can get behind Peter, Jake, the Troake family and their journey by following the Putting with Purpose Facebook page, or Instagram as well as their website. All funds go to help support child health research. So for Pete’s sake, please don’t be a bogey! #puttingwithpurpose
