Story

Written by Poppy's Mummy ....

My beautiful little girl Poppy with a big heart of gold has decided to have her hair chopped off now it's long enough to donate to the Little Princess Trust. Not only does she want to donate her hair so it can be made into wigs for little girls who have lost their hair she also wants to raise some pennies for the amazing Willow Foundation. She will be having it all chopped off into a very short bob on 26th April.

When Poppy was fifteen months old I was diagnosed with a very rare aggressive cervical cancer, it came completely out of the blue with no warning signs or symptoms (thank goodness for smear tests) the diagnosis was quickly followed by major surgery, and aggressive chemotherapy and radiotherapy. My amazing Macmillan nurse introduced us to The Willow Foundation as we'd never heard of them before. Fast forward a few weeks and the willow Foundation contacted us to say they would arrange a family break for us, there was no difficulty in choosing where to go we love Butlins so decided to go back there.

We as a family simply cannot put into words what the break meant for us, we managed to go for our five days at Butlins as arranged by the Willow foundation and made some precious memories in a week free of drugs, sickness and chemotherapy. I remember it  like it was yesterday going for the break on month four of chemotherapy I was exhausted and very sick but five days away from everything meant we could all concentrate on being a normal family. I wasn't a cancer patient for those five days I was a mummy and a wife and we had the most amazing time. It gave my strength to get through two more cycles of chemo before starting radiotherapy.

Absolutely everything was taken care of by Willow and it was undoubtedly  better than any medicine. Watching my girls running round happy and giggling and seeing my husband having a break from the relentless role of carer  he had taken on on top of a stressful job was priceless.

Poppy  and her sister still talk about their holiday at Butlins, they loved it. I'm immensely proud of Pops, she's made the decision to have her hair cut and we chatted about raising some money she picked The Willow Foundation.

Please if you could just spare even a pound to sponsor Pops and her hair chop she would be over the moon. The magic that Willow Foundation provide cannot be put into words. What they do for young people with life threatening illness and their families  is priceless.

Pops says thank you for reading xx
