About Play Midlothian
Play Midlothian is a small charity working to improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people through play. Each year we support 1600 children aged 0-13 years who are experiencing disadvantage and hardship, supporting learning and development through adventure and play. The disadvantages the children and young people face originate from living in situations of poverty and deprivation, the disabilities they live with and social isolation.
We deliver 3 key services that mitigate the challenges children face to improve their health and wellbeing and build skills and resilience to improve their aspirations and future life chances. These services are:
Out2Play: weekly outdoor, active outdoor play sessions in areas of deprivation, for children aged 7-12
Play for All: Equipping families with skills and confidence for supporting their disabled child(ren) to play at home, in local parks and within local community groups. Ensuring that disabled children can access the health, wellbeing, and developmental benefits of play, with opportunities for everyday adventures with their families.
Play in Mind: a targeted service to support children’s mental health through play in contact with nature and the outdoors. The service targets children ages 7-12 with emerging mental health issues.
