Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year I am taking on my biggest cycle challenge to date. It's my first individual challenge which will be traversing the French Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean coast with a few mountains in between!!!
I am fundraising for Cancer Research UK & British Heart Foundation who receive 50%, and the remaining 50% will go to my chosen charities being Alzheimers Society & the Salisbury District Hospital Stars Appeal for the new MRI scanner. All monies raised go to the chosen charity and all costs associated with transport, accommodation and expenses are paid by those taking part.
Over 7 days we shall cycle 484 miles with 67,432ft (20,553m) of ascending including some famous Tour de France climbs namely the Col d'Aubisque, Col de Tramassel (Hautacam), Col du Tourmalet and the Col de Peyresourde amongst the 12 major climbs on the challenge with average gradients between 5 to 10% over distances of 5 to 19kms.
The scale of the challenge is best illustrated by our schedule:-
Day 1 Biarritz to Oloron-Sainte-Marie 75 miles & 6327ft
Day 2 Oloron-Sainte-Marie to Lourdes 70 miles & 10000ft
Day 3 Lourdes 80 miles & 12000ft
Day 4 Lourdes to Bagneres-de-Luchon 60 miles & 8700ft
Day 5 Bagneres-de-Luchon to Saint-Girons 71 miles & 10950ft
Day 6 Saint-Girons to Ax-les-Thermes 66 miles &9885ft
Day 7 Ax-les-Thermes to Quillan 62 miles & 9570ft
I am aware that as a "big unit" cycling up mountains doesn't come naturally but I'm up for a challenge and have been training hard over the last few months including the Brecons, Jurassic Beast and SAMS100 ride.
I would be very grateful for any donation you are able to give for these great causes and rest assured it will provide me with all the motivation I need when pushing myself to the next summit!!!
Cheers
Phil
