We conserve blue carbon ecosystems to fight climate change

Story

Every month in Kenya, 1 million girls miss school because they cannot afford sanitary products. This leads to missed education and leaving school early, limiting life opportunities for young women.

We're working to tackle this issue in our project villages, providing schoolgirls with reusable sanitary products and soap, and an education on what periods are and how to manage them hygienically.

So far, in a pilot project, we have been able to provide sanitary products and education to 108 girls in Kiwegu village. Now we're trying to expand the project to all five of our villages: Kiwegu, Vanga, Jimbo, Gazi and Makongeni, giving more girls the ability to manage their periods and stay in school.

For just £5, you can give a girl a pack of 5 reusable sanitary towels and a bar of soap. The products will be distributed at an event that will not only educate girls about periods and what they are, but celebrate being a young woman and give girls the confidence to know that periods are normal and healthy, reducing the stigma that surrounds menstruation.
