About Pawprints Wirral Wildlife Rescue
Pawprints is a wildlife charity providing high quality, animal-focused wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in Wirral and the surrounding area. Initially, the focus of our activities is hedgehogs as this is where the current expertise of the staff and volunteers lies. Through partnerships with other organisations, we will provide wider support for wildlife in need, and over time we will look to develop our own expertise through appropriate training. We are, very clear that we will only work with animals where we have the appropriate knowledge and experience.
We will take in, and care for, sick or injured hedgehogs, or those who are generally struggling to survive in the wild; for example, underweight or dehydrated juveniles, or abandoned hoglets. The primary aim will be to treat and care for these hedgehogs to get them back into their natural habitat as soon as they are able to thrive unaided. We recognise that, as wild creatures, minimal intervention is best. Hedgehogs will receive appropriate medication (as prescribed by a vet) and be fed and kept clean and warm, with a focus on disease management and infection control, until they are healthy and of an appropriate size to be released.
We believe that a key role is to raise awareness and educate the public, of all ages, about the current plight of UK wildlife and what they can do to help. We operate an open-door policy so that anyone can drop in or call us if they need advice.
