20 Mile Hike · 16 May 2025

We are incredibly proud to launch The Big Space Cancer Appeal; raising funds for a new cancer centre that will offer local patients the very best environment for treatment, healing and recovery.

Story

The Background Story:

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a designated Regional Cancer Centre and has provided specialist cancer care for people in our community for more than 60 years supporting hundreds of thousands of local people to receive the best care there is to offer. Many of the current facilities are over 25 years old and a new modern building is needed to care for future generations.

Cheltenham Hospital will begin building works for a new Oncology Unit in summer 2025 to erect a 2-storey ward before renovating the existing unit to make it more comforting and less clinical. They describe it as a space to care, talk, think, recover and rest.

From memory, the hospital treats about 4,000 cancer patients a year (11 a day…) and I’m sure we all know/will know people that have/will rely on their care, so this is a hugely important project for everyone living in/around Cheltenham.

The Fundraiser:

On the 16th May, a group of us in the Cheltenham office will be undertaking a 20-mile hilly hike, to launch the office’s fundraising for the Cheltenham Hospital Oncology Unit and their ‘Big Space Cancer Appeal’.

The hospital needs to raise £17.5M to ensure completion of the new Unit, so we have a big challenge to try and raise as much as possible over the next two years - any donation will of course help towards this goal!
