Story
Where to start………..
My amazing crazy friend Dan and his brother Billy have kindly volunteered to do a weighted walk of 90+ miles from wombwell to Filey Park to raise money for barnsley hospice. The plan is to set off on the 27th of December 2023 and cover 30+ miles a day to reach the end point by the 30th with a cheeky pint or two waiting for both of them.
The starting point of wombwell is our family home town and where my parents still live and the end point Filey Park is where we have a memorial tree for my grandparents and where we have many happy memories as a family.
You might be asking Why would anyone do this?
Dan has witnessed the devastation my family have gone through and continue to go through. As a family we have lost many loved ones to the awful disease that is cancer, to learn someone you love has a terminal illness and that you have limited time with with them is the most devastating news, it never gets any easier when you hear those words.
That's where Barnsley Hospice comes in to help they are there for people and their families from the point of diagnosis and throughout their palliative care journey, including at the end of their life. They are a charity providing specialist palliative and end of life care to local people living with a life-limiting illness and those close to them.
These conditions include cancer, heart and lung diseases and neurological diseases such as motor neurone disease and Parkinson’s disease.
Barnsley hospice is truly a fantastic place.
From us as a family we can't thank Dan and Billy enough for taking on this challenge to help raise money and awareness for a charity close to our hearts x
So please please dig deep to help the charity and support two crazy but brilliant people on this long journey
