Story
I am hiking for male suicide; a tragic occurrence amongst young men which shouldn’t be happening.
I will be walking for my friend Rob but also others. At a young age, Robert Byrne was made Director at one of the world’s leading broking shops. His billings were highly impressive. He was an incredible talent and a very good friend. He had the world at his feet.
That’s why it makes it all so much harder that in April 2020 he decided to take his own life. He called me two hours before it did it. I guess this was his goodbye call. I am eternally grateful that I answered the phone, but I just wish he said: “I’m not okay, please help.”
I genuinely believe that getting fit, hiking and being out in nature can massively improve mental health.
I would like to promote the phrase: "Hike to heal." #hiketoheal.
I will be hiking the Lemosho trail alone (but with professional guides) on Kilimanjaro, as a personal challenge, to raise money and to spread awareness.
The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide; the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.
Anyone can hit crisis point. CALM run a free and confidential helpline and webchat 7 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone who needs to talk about life’s problems.
