This event is a brutal 10 mile run carrying a 35lb Bergen in army boots and combat trousers. Last year I completed this event in 2 hours 6 minutes with my wonderful friend John who provided me with support, encouragement and camaraderie. This year I have decided to have another go at the PARAS'10 event but I'm running solo.
Training by myself has been somewhat tough, and continues to challenge me every week - it just isn't the same as training with someone! For that reason I am under no illusions or providing myself with added pressure of trying to beat my previous time - I just want to be able to complete it!
The only pressure I am going to add is raising money for a phenomenal charity! In order to keep me motivated throughout my gruelling training plan, I have decided to raise money for a deserving charity and what better charity than Ronald McDonald.
I have seen first hand how Ronald McDonald have supported two families with children requiring long stays in hospital, with both saying they quite simply wouldn't have been able to be there for their children or have afforded local accommodation had Ronald McDonald not provided a place to stay.
Please encourage me on my way by joining me in fundraising for such an amazing charity - and a huge shout out to Caitlyn who shows such determination and is an inspiration following her stay in hospital. Additionally, a shout out to the Nafzger's who are such strong cookies, a power family if you will, with Super Ted being such a warrior and a handsome one at that!
Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with children having treatment in hospital.
Our Houses offer much more than just a place to stay; they provide family activities, peer support, respite, and many other services. This means that families can be by their child’s bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life with reduced emotional and financial strain.
We help over 6,000 families each year and now, more than ever, we need your support. Thank you.
Charities pay a small fee for our service. Learn more about fees
