Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.
Earlier this year, our family suffered the tragic loss of my Auntie Zoe.
Zoe was diagnosed with Sporadic CJD in early January, and after a short aggressive battle with the disease, sadly passed away in February.
CJD is one of a group of rare, progressive and fatal neurodegenerative diseases called prion diseases, affecting 1-2 people per million of the population per year (lifetime risk ~1 in 5,000). The disease can be sporadic, inherited, or acquired.
Zoe Harold was a loving mum, wife, daughter, auntie, teaching assistant, nurse, and the list could go on. Zoe was a special, unique person that would always put others over herself, and made such a huge impact on many's lives.
On October 6th, I will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon in memory of Zoe with the goal of raising money for the CJD Support Network.
The CJD Support Network was set up in 1995 by relatives of those affected by CJD. It is a UK charity focused on ensuring that appropriate practical and emotional support is available for those with a connection to CJD and prion disease.
Thank you for taking the time to read our page and in advance for supporting the CJD Support Network, a fantastic charity offering care and support to families.
Please find links below to a EADT news article paying tribute to Zoe and a separate memorial Just Giving page set up by my cousins Matthew, Amy and George and uncle Gavin, which helps to raise funds to research and support the use of an antibody drug developed for the treatment of patients with CJD.
