Story
In June my Dad and I will be taking part in the Great Lakes Outreach Bike for Burundi! 7 days – 100km/day – a stunning 38,000ft of fun, sweat, & tears in aid of GLO’s life-saving work in Burundi.
10 days before I go, dad has decided to join me! So we will now be doing this trip together with a small group of people from around the world!
Burundi is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley at the junction between the African Great Lakes region and East Africa.
GLO works with visionary local leaders to transform Burundi through education, sport, business, healthcare and more, bringing hope to thousands of the most vulnerable. Recently listed by the IMF as the poorest country in the world, the needs in Burundi are huge and varied - over 70% live in poverty, over half the population is chronically food insecure and fewer than seven people in every 100 have electricity in their home.
GLO identify, equip and empower the best local leaders of passion, integrity, gifting and vision for the transformation of the nation. GLO has identified a network of exceptional leaders in Burundi now representing multiple projects. We help these partners to develop, enabling them to increase their self-sufficiency. The results are exciting and encouraging despite Burundi’s many challenges.
Currently Burundi, as well as other countries in East Africa, are experiencing massive flooding due to high amounts of rainfall causing the banks of Lake Tanganyika to burst.
All donations will go directly to the work of GLO, all flights, accommodation and food has been covered.
