Story
In February 2023 my brother Troy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma previously known as glioblastoma multiforme. This disease is the most aggressive and most common type of cancer that originates in the brain, and has a very poor prognosis for survival. He continued to remain positive, despite knowing the risks and survival rate, he always had a smile on his face and continued to put others first. Troy was offered surgery as soon as possible to remove the tumour which was a success, removing 95%.
Three surgeries later, Troy’s cognition was no longer there and relied on family to make decisions for him, which was never easy. Troy knew it would be his last Christmas so with that in mind we sure made the best of it.
February 2024 Troy was taken extremely poorly, and was blue lighted into hospital, with ongoing test’s and scan’s his tumour had grown to 19cm and was hospitalised for 3 weeks. In that time he was told the Doctor’s and Surgeon's couldn’t do anymore for him which he was devastated about like anybody would be.
Troy’s last 3 weeks of being moved into St Luke’s Hospice where he remained with his family by his side on his very last end of his journey. Without St Luke’s Hospice, Troy wouldn’t have been able to cope being back home or in a hospital as his nursing needs needed to be maintained by end of life specialists.
Sadly on the 6th April 2024 my dear brother took his last breath’s surrounded by family and leaves behind 6 beautiful children and his family who loved him so so much.
Troy served almost 10 years of service as a Coldstream Guard in the Army, which was a massive achievement for him and he was alway’s a proud man.
I love you forever and always, your little brother Zac xx
