Story
I smashed my 60th birthday Triathlon Challenge in a total time of 1 hr 45mins (and not forgetting the 19 seconds)!
As a 1st (and last) triathlon, the weather was on my side, warm and sunny. My 1st hurdle was just registering, I actually managed somehow to write my contact details on the back of someone else’s number!
After several pees, yes the nerves were getting to me, it was my swim start time to go, after many triathlon sharks overtaking me and trying to keep breathing I managed to complete the 500metre swim in 16 minutes.
I did far too much ‘flapping about’ during the transition from swim to cycle, trying to eat half a banana, drink flat coke-cola and get my cycle gear on! Once on my bike I found my inner Speedy Gonzales and finished the 21k in 50mins.
The 5k run on grass went well, I loved every minute of it with the crowd cheering everyone on, this definitely helped with the mentality of finishing as strong as I could even though my legs felt like I was ready to collapse in a heap!
I officially consider myself now as an ex-triathlete – bucket-list challenge completed! and I now have more lycra in my wardrobe than a super hero does!
Thanks to all those that have supported my challenge in taking the time to donate to my Just Giving page to raise monies for BCHFT, Brighter Lives Across the Black Country, which will go towards making a real difference to the lives of the people that use our services.
